Mountain Music Meltdown - Saranac Lake, NY June 30 - July 1: Preview
Fair Warning! It’s difficult to preview an event which I myself have not been to before. It’s even harder to preview one which has no history, as there are not even comments by others to take into account. Mountain Music Meltdown, to be held in Saranac Lake , NY on June 30th and July 1st boasts a varied schedule of Americana and world music. This event is billed as “the first annual” so I hope it succeeds, as the Adirondack region is much in need of a couple more strong music festivals. This festival is promoted by Lazar Bear Productions, whose principal is Les Hershhorn.

I hope you get to spend the whole weekend at the Meltdown. I'm not affiliated with the promotor, so this isn;t a sales pitch.
ReplyDeleteI've had the privelege of jamming with more than half of the performers, so I'll fill you in a little- for the bluegrass fanatics the best of the show will be Doc, the Gibsons, and the George Bailey Trio. Check out John Doan on dobro with GBT. Sweetest dobro player Ive played with.
Beckey Sutter- not the best female singer/songwriter in the Adirondacks, but all right- great at marketing herself.
Chaz Depaolo- I've heard him many times and got to have him back me a couple of months ago- really exciting, inovative blues man.
Commander Cody- one of the patron saints of Country Rock, he plays piano and his band rocks at high speed to country beat- play at the first woodstock, anti- vietnam war, but does a lot for veterans.
Raisen Head- Dead influences Jam band- Buddy Cage from the New Riders will sit in on Pedal Steel.
New Riders -Not only was Garcia a founding member, but lead guitarist David Nelson was his side kick on many mutual endeavors from the early sixties until Jerry's death. Nelson played on several Dead albums, was part of the Jerry Garcia Accoustic Band, and they were long time close friends. Buddy Cage replaced Garcia at the end of the Festival EXpress Tour, because Jerry considered him a much better pedal steel player. The band toured until the mid 90's, and reformed a couple of years ago. Cage is a musical genius in his own right, played on several Dylan albums, with The Band, Johnny Cash, and on most of Robert Hunter's albums. They are the highlight of the festival. I've heard them twice in the last year, hot as a pistol
