As Jim Wing commented earlier, it appeared to be a middle aged group (What bluegrass audience isn't?), but I didn't see anyone walk out muttering, "That ain't no part a nothin'" so I think we can say that the order of performance was correct. There's plenty of opportunity to see Hot Mustard in Putney and environs.Ted Lehmannhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12948477139450253563noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7211910878271447535.post-16171413622101023412011-02-14T13:54:43.221-05:002011-02-14T13:54:43.221-05:00I'm a little sensitive to the issue in this fo...I'm a little sensitive to the issue in this forum. People who are FB friends of mine know my politics pretty well, but I try to keep them off my blog, for the most part, as well as off our FB Fan Page, which, since it is under both Irene's and My name is an absolute "No Politics Zone." That's how we've stayed married for 46+ years. Sorry if I sounded snippy.....Ted Lehmannhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12948477139450253563noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7211910878271447535.post-79540354118203676742011-02-14T13:54:20.509-05:002011-02-14T13:54:20.509-05:00After watching the two videos, it seems to me that...After watching the two videos, it seems to me that The Beeliners could have just as well opened for Hot Mustard. ;-)Andy Alexandernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7211910878271447535.post-60604247809571109442011-02-14T12:03:31.790-05:002011-02-14T12:03:31.790-05:00I think it's a fair question, Ted. I, too, wonder why my taxes were used to pay a couple of pickers to work out some dual-banjo arrangements.JimWing.noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7211910878271447535.post-81598599666444637352011-02-14T11:43:43.715-05:002011-02-14T11:43:43.715-05:00I can answer the question regarding the arts counc...I can answer the question regarding the arts council. Though funding has now been cut, the program was an apprenticeship program for traditional arts.

It is intended to cover art forms that are not generally taught formally.
http://www.nh.gov/nharts/grants/artists/tradapprenticeships.htm

NH Arts council has also offered a grant to Skip Gorman and Andy Sicard. It covers the cost of lessons for music study, if it were for pottery or weaving it could also cover material expenses.

It's sad to see these grants dissapear but I understand that the roads getting plowed are more important.

Feel free to send an email if you would like more information.

Best Regards,
KellyKelly Stockwellnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7211910878271447535.post-60355901454088469702011-02-14T09:41:02.739-05:002011-02-14T09:41:02.739-05:00No offense meant, Ted. Insofar as I know, Arts organizations respond to grant requests on merit, based on applications. Decisions are juried and reflect a desire to increase activity in a wide variety of arts.Ted Lehmannhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12948477139450253563noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7211910878271447535.post-45905088474890254692011-02-14T08:27:11.842-05:002011-02-14T08:27:11.842-05:00Actually, Jim, there were a few young people there...Actually, Jim, there were a few young people there, but not too many. The pic was taken before the room filled up and before the music began. I suspect a lot of the people there were, more or less, there on spec. They seemed to enjoy what they saw and many cheered for "More" by the end of the Bee Liners' program.Ted Lehmannhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12948477139450253563noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7211910878271447535.post-43911770476075596012011-02-14T08:10:25.893-05:002011-02-14T08:10:25.893-05:00One of the lines you wrote left me wondering. &quo...One of the lines you wrote left me wondering. "Growing from Vermont Council on the Arts grant allowing Bruce Stockwell and Bull Jubett to work on dual banjo bluegrass stylings..." Why would someone need a grant to work on banjo stylings, and what would the money be used for?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7211910878271447535.post-31325581733549316662011-02-14T07:53:22.677-05:002011-02-14T07:53:22.677-05:00Ted, look at your first photo; there's somethi...Ted, look at your first photo; there's something wrong with that picture: People sitting in rigid benches, facing straight forward, arms crossed, stark white walls over-illuminated, almost all the audience is at least 50 years old.

This scene says, "uncomfortable and unsocial," two words that are antithetical to the spirit of the music heard in the two video clips. That rousing version of Cherokee Shuffle certainly needed the accompaniment of dancing feet on the old wood floor.

I'm over 50, too, but I don't want to practice nursing home behavior while I can still shake my bones.

Anyhow, thanks for your blog reports; you do a fine job. I most like the video clips.JimWing.noreply@blogger.com
