Dare to Be Different Showcase - Bell Buckle, TN - Sept. 25

Downtown Bell Buckle, TN

Each year Valerie Smith & Liberty Pike host a day-long showcase event at the Bell Buckle Cafe in the picturesque little village of Bell Buckle, TN, 54 miles south of the Nashville Convention Center through very pretty countryside, if you decide to get off the I-24 a little early.  The show starts at noon and continues through the day, ending shortly before nine with plenty of time to get home to bed afterwards. The Cafe serves tasty food at reasonable prices, the bands are entertaining, and the environment friendly, pressure free, and homey. It's a good way to spend the day before IBMA World of Bluegrass begins on Monday morning.

Louisa Branscomb

Acoustic Blue

This year's lineup at Dare to Be Different is strong and varied.  Cumberland River has come to national attention as the band providing backup music for the critically acclaimed FX TV series "Justified." Louisa Branscomb, best known for writing the Alison Kraus song "Steel Rails" is nominated for several IBMA awards for songs on her new CD "I'll Take Love." Louisa is an active performer and song writer. Mark Newton is co-producer of the IBMA Fan Fest and the Graves Mountain Bluegrass Festival as well as an able performer.  Frances Mooney & Fontana Sunset are a lively band from Georgia which has performed at Bell Buckle before.  Jerry Butler & the Blu-J's are well known to the Bell Buckle audience and to festival audiences around the country as this popular singer has taken his own band on the road. Valerie Smith & Liberty Pike, the host band, will conclude the evening. This band is always tuneful and entertaining.   I'm not familiar with the other bands, but am confident they'll add to the interesting and varied mix this showcase event will create.

How to Get to the Bell Buckle Cafe

The Dare to be Different Showcase hosted by Valerie Smith provides a pleasant diversion on the day before all the intense hubbub of IBMA's World of Bluegrass begins. It supports the International Bluegrass Music Museum in Owensboro, KY to which Valerie has devoted significant time in recent years, which is another good reason to attend.  Hope to see you there.
