IBMA 2009 - Monday

The annual convention of the International Bluegrass Music Association convened in the Nashville Convention Center on Monday for a seven day run.  It has a large and complext program including seminars and meetings, an exhbition center, banquets, awards, and dozens of artist showcases, official, after hours, and private.  There's no way to keep up with it all.  This week is also one of the busiest of the year for us, because, in addition to covering the event for this blog, we're fans and want to see as much as we can as well as visit with old and new friends.  What follows for the next few days will be impressionistic with lots of pictures and not much text. After we're back on the road, I intend to focus on the highlights in greater detail as well as to check back into good photos I might have missed.  I hope you can get a flavor of the event as well as a sense of its importance in the greater world of bluegrass music.

    Ted, I'm so glad I stumbled on this blog on the Bluegrass-L list today. I appreciate you posting the IBMA week photos so much. It's kinda like being there only not nearly as fun. Love the pictures at all the other places too. Reminds me of when I lived in Nashville and how much I miss hanging out in them. :o) Thanks for all you do for bluegrass music.

    Ted,

    As always a great post.

    We all need to write Mr. Fisher and thank him for extending an invitation for bluegrass groups to have more represention at the Opry.

    When I am in town I usually take in the Station Inn. The talent level is so high there, and it is such a value for my entertainment dollar. Next time I am in town I might go the Opry one night too. He seems like he is not going to turn his back on tradition, and yet still move forward.

    Slight correction for you, Ted. Your caption of the "Hamish" brothers are actually the Davidson Brothers, Lachlan and Hamish, from Australia. Great young pickers, BTW.

    Great seeing you down there and thanks for the great pix of my session. We all had a blast!
