Josh Williams "Mordecai" Goes Viral

It's been an exciting day here at the blog. It appears that while I wasn't looking, my video of Josh Williams singing "Mordecai," a story of a wandering Jewish peddler, to a bird perched on his guitar has gone viral. As of a few minutes ago, it had suddenly received over 150,000 hits and been identified by a couple of YouTube channels specializing in such things as worth watching. I thought I'd post it here for those of you who are regular readers of the blog:

  1. Hi Ted,

I had seen this video through this blog, and was thrilled to see it on another site I frequent today.

It is on The Awesomer as of today.

  2. I enjoyed that video. Any idea what was happening? Was the bird an escaped pet? Or just a Bluegrass fan? (And yes, I could see how that might be the case!)

  3. The bird fell from its nest. at the end of the performance, a veterinarian sitting near the front row examined it and put it back in the nest. Commenters on the video say that birds will take back their young

  5. Hi Ted,
LOVE that Mordecai video. Do you know who wrote that song and the music? I like the song a lot now and the video is amazing. You really captured a special moment in time. Did you know that on The Regular Show (cartoon) there is a bird named Mordecai? :-)
Anyone know who wrote Mordecai song and music? I love birds and bluegrass. What a perfect video that combines both. Well done.

  6. Thanks, Gareth. No, I don't know who wrote Mordecai, which distresses me some since I try to identify the composer of each song I post, not always successfully. I think it's a great story-telling song with an unusual focus, for bluegrass, on the Jewish peddler. I'm particularly interested in this case, since I might not have made the video had I not been the person who requested that Josh sing this song. I'll try to ask him later, but not at 4:45 in the morning.
