Willow Oak Bluegrass Festival: April 25 - 27, 2013 - Roxboro, NC

The Willow Oak Bluegrass Festival at Willow Oak Park near Roxboro, NC will run from April 25 - 27 this year. This revived festival, under the direction of former Bass Mountain Boy Mike Wilson, now offers a reconfigured performance area and stage, plenty of camping spaces in a shaded, pretty area, good vendors, and lots of fun in a traditional bluegrass setting. There are electric hookups for campers and plenty of water available around the site. This festival always features lots of active jamming and a strong lineup.

The Lineup

This year's lineup is varied and interesting. A highlight performance will be a reunion show by the fabled Bass Mountain Boys on Saturday. Also, The James King Band will appear on Friday. James is looking and sounding better than he has in years, and has surrounded himself with the strongest band we've ever seen with him. It's a delight to see Barry Crabtree back on the road at banjo after a hiatus.  Junior Sisk has a new CD out and will, of course be bringing new material from it as well as his beloved traditional covers.  Mark Newton and Steve Thomas have been touring for some months now, and I look forward to seeing what they've worked up. Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out will close out Saturday, with Russell's voice back in good shape and their always enjoyable show.
